Deliveries...

I'll start this post out by showing you that we are all becoming resourceful in our seating and lounging arrangements (we still really don't have much in the way of lounge seating in our house since we STILL have not found the futon screws!!). Roger and I watched a movie on Friday night - finally taking a break from all of the unpacking. When we finished the movie, we turned around and saw that Meggie had made herself very comfortable in Jed's soft lounge chair...
Moving right along...our dining room set was delivered early Saturday morning. We were very pleased that it DOES fit into our dining room! I still very much love this set - it reminds me of a medieval table that belongs in the home of a knight...I can envision people eating turkey legs and drinking soup from the bowl at this table! One more room on the way to completion...
Now, on to the bed...since the dining set was delivered so early, Roger was able to head out to pick up our headboard as soon as Bruce opened. So, here are the before and after pictures of our headboard - the break, of course. I would like to note the "specialness" of this wood. There is NO finish on this wood - this is the raw wood that you're seeing. It has only been sanded smooth for furniture purposes. It is such a beautiful hard wood, only requiring bi-annual oiling to keep it hydrated.
Bruce wound up securing the leg with a spike and gluing it. He said he could have made it look better if he had had a piece of the Red Gum wood with which to work, but as it was not available, he did the best he could. He said it would hold the bed, and that's all that really mattered to me.

Of course, it couldn't be just that simple, right?! We started to assemble the bed and we got this far before we realized that we were missing 4 pegs to hold these slats in...it was about 5:30 pm at this point.
Roger knew how important it was to me to sleep in this bed last night, so he offered to run to Home Depot and get a rod that he could cut into pegs...and he did. So, it was around 8 pm before we got the bed all assembled and drug the latex mattress up from the garage - here it is. And, boy was it comfy last night - and even better this morning because when the 2nd child (Jed) came in, I didn't have to get up and go to his bed with him - we ALL fit in this one! Now, once we get our closet system installed (in a week and a half), we will be able to finish the unpacking in our bedroom. One step at a time...
